Buena Vista is a community in the US state of Colorado and is located 150 km southwest of Denver on the Arkansas River - near the headwaters of the river. The community, founded in 1879, is located in a wide valley of the Arkansas River between the Sawatch Range and the Mosquito Range , two mountain ranges of the Rocky Mountains . Not far from the San Isabel National Forest and in the middle of the Arkansas Headwaters recreation area, tourism in particular plays a major role for Buena Vista. The place is known nationwide, especially as a starting point for white water rafting on the Arkansas River. The place is the starting point of the TransRockies Run, a stage run over 120 miles.
