The Buffalo River is a river in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal .

course

It belongs to the river system of the Tugela . Its headwaters are north of Newcastle at Volksrust . It flows in a south-easterly direction and flows into the Tugela at Nkandla .

ecology

A problem for the Buffalo River ecosystem is poor water quality. From the mines to Newcastle and from the area of Ngagane River get acid mine drainage in Buffalo.
