action
Butch Stein, who grew up in Brooklyn , was of Jewish origin and spent eight years in prison. He is released on parole. His brother Ruby and his friend Lester pick him up at the prison gate.
When Stein arrives in Brooklyn, he runs into two teenagers who want to make a deal with the drug dealer Tank. He forces them to go to the roof of a high-rise apartment building, where they have to strip naked. The clothes are thrown from the roof.
Shortly thereafter, Stein is approached by a Tanks helper and asked what he is up to. The man threatens Stein with a knife, whereupon Butch rams the knife in his eye.
Tank assigns Gates to beat up Stein. However, Stein breaks the bat's hand.
Stein is shot by tank and buried according to the Jewish ritual. His relatives lay stones on the grave.
In the last scene, Tank goes home alone. A masked man (Butch's brother Louis) surprises him and cuts Tank's throat.
Reviews
“Dreary doom study, the foreseeable outcome of which leaves an unpleasant aftertaste. The film, bursting with violence, pessimism and disgust, ultimately remains too one-dimensional, both thematically and formally. "
Ryan Cracknell wrote in the Apollo Guide that the film " wallows in the hopelessness of the streets. " He shows the American Dream as just a dream. The characters and situations are " simple caricatures ".
The TV14 magazine 24/2006 described the film as " dark " and praised the cast.
