The Federation of St. Sebastianus Schützenjugend (BdSJ) is the youth association of the Federation of Historical German Schützenbruderschaften e. V. The BdSJ has around 34,000 young and school shooters. The BdSJ is a member of the Federation of German Catholic Youth .

structure

Brotherhood / local level

Membership in the BdSJ begins in the brotherhood, because all members of a brotherhood under the age of 24 are automatically members of the Association of St. Sebastianus Schützenjugend. The local shooting youth is led by a young shooting board elected by its members. The structure of a board can vary from brotherhood to brotherhood, ideally it consists of young riflemen, a deputy, treasurer, a student rifle representative and the like. U. ladies' representatives and / or flag-waving masters. Alternatively, there are also compositions in which there are several young shooting associations in one brotherhood. These then have their own board members, with the first representative of these connections reporting to the young rifle master. As a rule, the President and the Brother Master are born members of the Board of Directors. The student prince and the young shooter king also belong to the board for one year. (All offices and dignities are gender neutral.)

District Association / Middle Level

The district association is the regional association of brotherhoods in a district. The assignment is made by the Federation of Historic German Rifle Brotherhoods and is not based on any political or church boundaries. The BdSJ district association is led by the district young rifle council, which is formed from the young rifle masters of the brotherhoods. He is chaired by the district young rifle board with the district young rifle master. The district prince shooting takes place once a year, in which the reigning student prince or prince compete in a sporting shooting competition for the title of district student prince or district prince.

Regional Association

The special feature of the BdSJ Diocesan Association of Münster is that it is also divided into three regional districts, the Lower Rhine, Münster and Oldenburger Münsterland / Hümmling districts. These are superordinate to the level of the district association, which impose their own princes and kings. They manage themselves and form the entire diocesan association of Münster in order to be able to implement the goals of the association across the different regions and two federal states. The respective regional junior rifle masters are members of the diocesan board and thus represent the district associations of their regional district in the BdSJ - diocesan board. Due to the historically different structure and the closeness of the local rifle brotherhoods and shooting clubs to the BHDS , the regional districts (LBZ) are of different sizes. While the LBZ Oldenburger Münsterland / Hümmling consists of three district associations, the LBZ Niederrhein has seven district associations. Every year each state district organizes its own prince shooting or a state rifle festival.

Diocesan Association

The diocesan association is made up of the district associations that are located in the area of the individual dioceses. Like the district association, the diocesan association is managed by the diocesan youth rifle council, which is also responsible for electing the diocesan board. The diocesan junior rifle master presides over the diocesan board. The diocesan association is responsible for various training courses. B. group leader, holiday leader etc. The educational work is usually supported by an educational officer. The diocesan association organizes various events every year, such as a pilgrimage and the diocesan youngsters' day. These events are mostly organized by local groups or district associations.

federal Association

The federal association is the amalgamation of the currently six diocesan associations Aachen, Essen, Cologne, Münster, Paderborn and Trier. It is directed by the Federal Young Rifle Council, to which the diocesan junior rifle masters belong. Stephan Steinert has held this position since 2014. Federal Young Rifle Preses is Wolfgang Pütz. The Federal Association organizes the Federal Young Rifle Days and projects at the federal level.

Stephan Steinert has been Federal Junior Rifle Champion since 2014.

Age groups

Schoolchildren

The student shooters are the members up to the age of 16 years. There is no minimum age, but the use of the air rifle is only possible from the age of 12 under the supervision of appropriately trained youth leaders or youth shooting leaders. The student archers determine the student prince from among their ranks.

Young shooters

Young shooters are the members aged 17 to 24 years. The young shooters determine the young prince from their ranks.

Bambini or Tellschützen

In some diocesan associations (including Cologne) a 3 age group has been established for some years. This is located below the school shooter to introduce the under 12-year-olds to the shooting world. They determine the Bambini or Tell prince from among their ranks. In autumn 2017, the Federal Young Rifle Council decided to introduce a Bambini prince at federal level for 2019.

Guiding principle

The guiding principle of the Schützenjugend is For Faith-Custom-Home .

Patron saint

The patron saint of the BdSJ is Saint Sebastian .

Young shooter days

District Young Rifle Day

Depending on the strength of the respective district association, a district youth rifle day is organized once a year; this can also take place together with the shooters of the BHDS in a joint district festival. On this day, all student princes and princes of the brotherhoods belonging to the district compete in order to achieve the dignity of district student prince or district prince. As a rule, other competitions are also held, such as B. flag waving / flag flapping, cup shooting and play street.

Diocesan Young Rifle Day

The diocesan associations organize a diocesan youth rifle day once a year in their diocese , to which the brotherhoods and district associations can apply. On this day all district student princes and district princes compete in order to achieve the dignity of diocesan student prince or diocesan prince. The flag throwers / flag breakers also have their place on the diocesan youth rifle days. This is where the flag throwers / flag-breakers compete in different age groups.

Federal Young Rifle Days

Like the diocesan associations, the federal association organizes the Federal Young Rifle Days (also short BJT) once a year. Not only do the qualifiers from the diocesan prince competitions come together here, but also many other young and school shooters. The Bundesjungschützentage is also a festival of encounters. Many friendships among individual young shooting groups are and will be made here. The organization is incumbent on the diocesan associations alternately. In recent years it has become increasingly difficult to find organizers due to stricter requirements in North Rhine-Westphalia , so in 2011 the Federal Young Rifle Day was awarded to the regional association Oldenburger Münsterland / Hümmling at short notice after Löningen - Elbergen in the DV Münster and thus took place in Lower Saxony . Within just 100 days, the organizers were able to set up a replacement event with the necessary requirements. On July 20, 2016, it was announced that the 2017 Federal Young Rifle Days would not take place in Sinzig. The reason given was that the financial risks were too great.

Next Federal Young Shooter Days

The next Bundesjungschützentag 2018 will take place from October 26th to 28th, 2018 in Stukenbrock (Diocesan Association Paderborn ).

Competitions

Federal Prince shooting

As already stated several times, the brotherhoods determine their prince in the individual classes. In the age group of 12 to 15 year olds, the student prince is determined annually, in the age group of 16 to 24 year olds the youth prince. Three scoring shots must be fired on a shooting card with the air rifle within 5 minutes. A maximum of 30 rings can be achieved. Both qualify for the district prince shooting in the respective age group, depending on the strength of the district and the structure of the diocesan association, the best princes are allowed to attend the diocesan youth rifle day to determine the diocesan student and diocesan youth princes among themselves. Here, too, there is the possibility of further qualification. The winners, as well as the runners-up (certain keys per diocese) have qualified for the federal student prince or federal prince shooting. A special feature is also evident here in the Diocesan Association of Münster, in addition to qualifying for the Diocesan Prince Shooting, there is also the opportunity to qualify for the State Prince Shooting of the respective regional district, but this does not have any impact on the Diocesan Young Rifle Day for the participants. At the moment there is discussion in the federal executive committee, but also in the dioceses, about the introduction of a bambini shooting with the laser rifle for children.

BJT Cup

The BJT-Cup takes place annually at the Bundesjungschützentag, the exact specifications are communicated to all brotherhoods by email in a separate announcement each year. Some dioceses also organize DJT cups on their diocesan youth rifle days; these are subject to regulations drawn up by the respective diocese.

Flag waving

The flag waving represents the fettering and unleashing of St. Sebastian. Here three types are distinguished: Rhenish type, Lower Rhine, Münsterland flag blow. Thus, the diocesan association of Münster with the typical regional swivel and stroke types is a specialty here as well. In different age groups, synchronicity, posture, etc. are assessed.

Orders and awards

Federal awards BdSJ

The BdSJ has its own awards, with the federal awards closely following the BHDS . There are three categories of the Youth Merit Order at the federal level:

1. Bronze Order of Youth Merit

The award can be given to a member who has rendered services to the shooting youth in accordance with the guiding principle of the federal government.

2. Silver Youth Merit Order

The award can be given to a member who has made a special contribution to the shooting youth in accordance with the guiding principle of the federal government.

3. Gold Youth Merit Order

The award can be given to a member who has rendered outstanding services to the shooting youth in accordance with the guiding principle of the federal government. To be awarded, the affirmative majority of the written votes cast by the Federal Executive Committee of the BdSJ is required.

Diocesan awards BdSJ

In addition to the orders of the federal level, some dioceses also have their own diocesan youth merit orders. The pioneer of this award is the BdSJ Diocesan Association Paderborn, there are two awards for young people .

1. Bronze Diocesan Order of Merit for Youth

The Diocesan Order of Merit in bronze can be awarded to members of the local shooting youth who have earned merit within their community. These merits must be of a disinterested nature and should be exemplary and emblematic for other members of the shooting youth. The merits can also consist in a constant commitment and cooperation within the shooting youth.

2. Diocesan Order of Merit of the Youth in Silver

The Diocesan Order of Merit in silver can be awarded to members of the Schützenjugend who have made merits within the local, district and diocesan level of the association. These merits, too, must be of a disinterested nature and should be exemplary and worthy of imitation for other members of the shooting youth. The merits can also consist in a constant commitment and cooperation within the shooting youth.

In other dioceses such as B. the BdSJ Diocesan Association of Münster, an award provision was decided at the diocesan youth rifle council meeting in November 2013. In March 2014 the new diocesan JVO was presented and can be obtained from the brotherhoods at the diocesan association from June 2014. In contrast to the usual representations of St. Sebastian on the orders of merit of the federal government and other dioceses, Münster depicts its specialty of the three state districts with their own coats of arms .

Flag throwing awards

In addition to the young shooters , flag throwers also have the opportunity to be recognized for their services. The BdSJ together with the BHDS offers the following awards for flag throwers.

1. Bronze medal waving the flag

The award can be given to a member for achievements in flag waving or services in flag waving that were rendered or acquired at the level of the brotherhood and / or district association.

2. Flag waving service medal in silver

The award can be given to a member for achievements in flag waving or services in flag waving that have been rendered or acquired at the level of the district and / or diocesan association.

3. Gold flag waving service medal

The award can be given to a member for achievements in flag waving or services in flag waving that have been repeatedly rendered or acquired at the federal level and / or beyond that at the national and / or international level.
