Federal Association of Parents, Friends and Relatives of Homosexuals
The Federal Association of Parents, Friends and Relatives of Homosexuals e. V. (abbreviated: Befah) was founded in 1997 as an amalgamation of several self-help groups by parents of homosexual children. The association was dissolved on May 31, 2016.
The central goal is to share your own experiences in order to be at your side in an advisory capacity. Another goal is to use public relations work to increase the tolerance of their gay sons and lesbian daughters. Politically, the groups wanted to achieve equality for homosexual couples before the law; the central requirement here is also the right to adopt homosexuals. Therefore, some groups also took part in Christopher Street Day .
The first self-help group was founded in 1982. Most recently there are 15 active parent groups in Germany. Family Minister Kristina Schröder has been the patron of the biennial Federal Parents' Meeting since 2011 and also gave a speech there in 2013. Befah is a member of the Lesbian and Gay Association in Germany (LSVD), the Ecumenical Community of Homosexuals , Homosexual Self-Help (HS), the Family Future Forum and the organization European Families of Lesbians and Gays (EuroFLAG). Some self-help groups are supported by the contact and information center for self-help groups (KISS).
There are many such associations around the world. The organization Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays ( PFLAG ) from the USA, which is also shown in the film Prayers for Bobby , is best known .
