Colorful Flag 86
Buntes Fähnlein 86 was a German - US American - Canadian FTX military maneuver of the 4th Panzer Grenadier Division in Bavaria / Upper Palatinate , which took place in the winter of 1986 .

The BLUE exercise force was composed as follows:

RED was structured as follows:

- 3rd Battalion / 35th Armored Regiment
- 2nd US Armored Cavalry Regiment , Nuremberg
Management and referee service provided the Panzergrenadierbrigade 10 and the telecommunications battalion 4.
scope
The division exercise Buntes Fähnlein 86 took place from November 3rd to 7th, 1986 in the area of Auerbach , Pressath , Windischeschenbach , Weiden , Nabburg , Amberg , Sulzbach-Rosenberg , Freihung , Tanzfleck and Vilseck . Buntes Fähnlein 86 was part of the “Autumn Forge” series of maneuvers .
procedure
In the division exercise Buntes Fähnlein 86, the M981 FISTV (Fire Support Team Vehicle / Forward Observer Vehicle - VB artillery observer with Ground / Vehicular Laser Locator Designator [G / VLLD] on M113 chassis) was used for the first time. On the 2nd day of the exercise there was a partly fierce tank battle between the Leopard battle tanks of the 4th RCD "The Royal Canadian Dragoons" and the Pz AufklBtl 4 on the part of ROT in the early morning hours.
