The Milliy Stadium ( Uzbek Milliy Stadioni , German National Stadium ), Russian Миллий (стадион) , formerly Bunyodkor Stadium ( Uzbek Bunyodkor Stadioni ), is a football stadium in the Uzbek capital Tashkent . The facility offers 34,000 seats, including 2,000 business seats, 150 press seats and 50 wheelchair-accessible seats. It is owned by the Bunyodkor Tashkent football club . In addition to Bunyodkor, the Uzbek national soccer team uses the venue. It is operated by the national football association Oʻzbekiston Futbol Federatsiyasi (UFF).
history
The impetus for the construction of the stadium came from the application for the 2012 U-20 Women's World Cup . The FIFA awarded the tournament on March 3, 2011. Uzbekistan, after the actual host Vietnam due to lack of support from the government withdrew from the host. Ultimately, however, the World Cup took place in Japan, as FIFA withdrew the tournament from Uzbekistan on December 18, 2011 due to logistical and technical problems.
The Milliy Stadium was built on the site of the MHSK Stadioni, which opened in 1986, between 2008 and 2012. The architecture office GMP Architects , based in Hamburg, is responsible for the stadium design . Involved in the construction were u. a. the companies Max Bögl (stadium) and Oberhofer Stahlbau (roof and facade). There were delays in 2010. The reason for this was the bankruptcy of the investor Zeromax GmbH, which is associated with Gulnora Karimova , daughter of President Islom Karimov . The construction work could only be continued in 2011.
The two-story tiers have plastic seats in the national colors of blue, white and green. The roof construction with an area of 32,000 square meters is covered with a membrane made of PVC- coated polyester fabric (PES / PVC type III). The facade is clad with a further 10,200 square meters. The white membrane of the facade can be illuminated in different colors. In the opening game, the city rivals Bunyodkor and Paxtakor faced each other in a friendly game on September 28, 2012 .
The football arena is part of the 56 hectares large sports complex Bunyodkor . These include the stadium and a. a football school, seven training fields , a rehabilitation center and a hotel with a restaurant complex. There is also a museum dedicated to the history of Uzbek football in the stadium. The venue meets all FIFA requirements for international matches. The first official game at Bunyodkor Stadium took place on March 26, 2013. When qualifying match of the fourth round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup met Uzbekistan and Lebanon (1: 0) to each other.
