Kusowatowo ( Russian Кузова́тово ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ulyanovsk Oblast in Russia with 8022 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 100 km as the crow flies south-southwest of the Ulyanovsk Oblast Administrative Center . It is located not far from the source of the Swijaga on the Volga plate , about 70 km from the right bank of the Volga near Syzran .

Kusowatowo is the administrative center of the Rajons Kusowatowski and seat and only town of the municipality Kusowatowskoje gorodskoje posselenije.

history

The place was founded in 1898 in connection with the construction of the railway line ( Moscow  -) Ryazan  - Syzran.

In 1928 Kusowatowo became the administrative seat of the newly created Rajons named after him. In 1957 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

Kusowatowo has a station at kilometer 837 of the railway line Moscow - Ryazan - Syzran, which opened on this section in 1900 and has been electrified since 1959 .

The regional road 73K-1427 runs through the settlement, which branches off south of Ulyanovsk from the Syzran - Ulyanovsk branch of the federal trunk road M5 and continues via Novospasskoye on the M5 to the southern border of the Oblast near Staraya Kulatka (in the direction of Chwalynsk in the Saratov Oblast ). Via the 73K-0061 there is a connection to the border of Samara Oblast in the direction of Syzran.
