Novospasskoye ( Russian Новоспа́сское ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ulyanovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 11,075 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is about 140 km as the crow flies south-southwest of the Ulyanovsk Oblast Administrative Center on the left bank of the Sysranka , a right tributary of the Volga .

Novospasskoye is the administrative center of the Novospassky Rajon named after him . The settlement is also the administrative seat of a municipality of the same name Novospasskoje gorodskoje posselenije, which also includes the seven villages of Jurjewka, Malaja Andrejewka, Malowka, Novoye Tomyshevo, Rokotuschka, Surulowka and Sykowo, which are up to 15 km away.

history

The place was founded in the 17th century and was initially called Solowzowo after the owner of the village. After the opening of the railway line Rjaschsk  - Sysran in 1874 and the creation of a settlement at the railway station, it was renamed Novospasskoye in 1875 (from Russian novo- for 'new' and spas for ' redeemer ').

In the 1960s, oil was discovered in the area , and in 1966 Novospasskoye received urban-type settlement status.

Economy and Infrastructure

In addition to the oil and gas production in the area, there are factories in Novospasskoye for building materials, agriculture and processing of agricultural products.

The double-track, electrified railway line Moscow  - Ryashsk - Samara (route kilometers 913) runs through Novospasskoye . On the northern outskirts of the village, the M5 trunk road runs from Moscow via Samara and Ufa to Chelyabinsk . The Friendship (Druzhba) oil pipeline runs parallel to the road on this section .
