Burchardinger (French noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The French Burchardinger ( French Bourchardides ) descend from Burchard Ratepilate . His descendants are the Counts of Vendôme , Melun and Paris .

origin

Current works on the origin of the French Burchardinger postulate a descent in the female line from the Agilolfingers . Burchard Ratepilate was in fact a great-grandson of Aubry von Sens and Engeltrude, daughter of Count Odo von Orléans .

A first Burchard is mentioned in 891 and 905 in the writings of the Abbey of Saint-Martin de Tours , but is not explicitly referred to as the Count of Vendôme.

Bouchard Ratepilate, his son, is the first to be sure that he was Count of Vendôme. As confidants of the Robertines, he and his successors benefited from their rise.
