Alsbach Castle

The Alsbach moated castle , also called Haus Alsbach , is a fortified manor house in Engelskirchen ( North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany ).

Presumably in 1373 it was first documented as zu me hove . Accompanied by frequent changes of ownership, it was built from 1622 to 1627 - probably on the layout of an older castle or a residential tower - by adding a nave to the tower. In 1893 the encircled complex with outer bailey was converted into a seven-axle two-wing complex.

The following are named as owners: 1431 Wilhelm von den Vorste gen. Obhoven and Hermann von Slebusch, 1532 Quadt , around 1800 Wendt , late 19th century Count Wolff-Metternich , since 1967 Count Spee . Today's owner is Pius Graf von Spee.

The mansion is completely surrounded by a moat, preliminary to the northwest bailey is still outside. A south garden ground floor is connected to the manor house by a bridge. The house can be reached via a narrow 300 meter long driveway. The house can only be viewed from the outside.

The Engelskirchen Castle Guard commemorates Rittmeister Wienand Ruttger von Quadt zu Alsbach , who valiantly defended the village from the invading Swedes.
