Egerberk Castle

The Egerberk Castle , also Lestkov (German Egerberg , Egerburg ) is located on the northern flank of the Duppau Mountains , on the 545 m high "Leskauer Schloßberg", south of Klášterec nad Ohří ( Klösterle an der Eger ) in the Czech Republic . Larger parts of the outer walls and the two mighty palaces of the once stately castle are still preserved today.

history

Reconstruction attempt by L. Herc

Egerberg was built by the Lords of Egerberg around 1241 , passed to the Lords of Schönburg in the middle of the 14th century , Heinrich von Skopek von Dauba in 1386 , Nikolaus von Prag in 1411 and Wend von Ilburg in 1422 . Before the Lords of Schönburg, the castle was the seat of the von Seeberg family.

In the eighties of the 14th century, Heinrich Skopek von Dubá († May 6, 1395) expanded it to its present size, which was tantamount to a new building. The result was a castle with two large palas , but without the otherwise common keep or residential tower . The castle was fortified by walls with tower-like, inwardly open entrance gates.

Ilburg was attacked on Whit Saturday 1444 by his neighbor Wilhelm von Schönburg , captured and thrown into the tower, where he starved to death with a bundle of hay and a jug of water. Wilhelm von Schönburg appropriated Egerberg and sold it in 1448 to the Hussite captain Jakoubek z Vřesovic , who, however, had to return the illegal property to Botho von Ilburg in 1457, after which Egerberg ceded to Bosso von Vitzthum in 1460 . Dietrich and Georg von Vitzthum sold the estate on January 26, 1557 to their brother-in-law Bohuslav Felix von Lobkowitz and Hassenstein . His son Bohuslav Joachim von Lobkowitz sold the castle with all accessories to Leonard Stampach of Stampach in 1591. 1598 This bought also the 1554 built Schloss Felix castle at Eger ( Zámek Felixburk in Roschwitz / Rašovice, today part of Klasterec nad Ohri , small residues received), moved there with his official staff and left Egerberg to its decay.

In 1880, tourism was supported by the Erzgebirge Committee under the direction of Josef Richard Sobitschka, Edler von Wiesenhag from Bohemian Wiesenthal (Loučna), with financial help from the Austrian imperial family. In addition to road expansion, this support also concerned the Egerberg inn in the village of Leskau.
