The Haag Castle , also called Haag Castle , is the ruin of a moated castle in the Haag market in Upper Bavaria in the Mühldorf am Inn district in Bavaria .
history
The castle was probably built by the noble free "de Haga" or "vom Hage" ( county of Haag ) in the 12th century and was inherited or sold to the noble free Gurren von Kirchdorf, who were henceforth called the Gurren von Haag. The castle then went to the ministerial family of the Fraunbergers , who ruled there until they died out in 1566. The imperial county of Haag was awarded by Emperor Maximilian II to the dukes of Bavaria, who reversed the Reformation in the county. During the Napoleonic era , the castle was gradually demolished around 1804.
Todays use
From 1981 to 2005 the castle tower served as a local museum run by the Hague History Society. In 2005 the tower had to be closed due to construction defects. The tower reopened in July 2016.
description
The once large castle complex still shows the core castle with a round wall , parts of the Zwinger , a gate tower and the impressive 42 meter high residential tower , the so-called "castle tower", which can be seen from afar . The lower part of the tower from around 1200 was later increased several times. The tower has a side length of twelve meters and three meters thick walls with a high entrance seven meters high. The top two floors have a fireplace and corner turrets from the 15th century. The large outside staircase from 1748 and the Lion Bridge have been preserved. The moat served as a zoo in the Baroque period .
