Hajnáčka Castle

The ruins of Hajnáčka Castle ( Hrad Hajnáčka in Slovak , Ajnácskő in Hungarian ) are located on a basalt rock directly above the village of Hajnáčka in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , 12 kilometers southeast of Fileck ( Fiľakovo ), Gemer region in Slovakia . The hilltop castle dates from the 13th century.

During the Mongol Storm (1241–1242) vassals of Beckov Castle built fortifications on the rock. Originally the castle served as a refuge. Later, around the middle of the 15th century, a castle was completed. In 1546 the castle was conquered by the Turks. In 1685 Alexander Vécsey was the captain of the castle. In 1703 the castle burned down and was not restored.

The remains of the palace and a bastion in the difficult-to-reach highest part of the castle have been preserved from the castle. From a distance, however, you cannot even see that a castle once stood here.
