Waldeser Castle

The castle Waldesian , also known as Castle or Castle Waldesian , Waldensian and Waldersee called, is a Outbound Wasserburg about 2 km northwest of the city of Dessau in the angle which the furs at its confluence with the depression in today's Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve forms. There was also a village with the same name here.

The castle Waldesian on the furs was first documented in 1212. The moated castle was the seat of the Counts of Waldeser . One of these counts, as well as his daughter Adelheid, are also mentioned in the legend “The erring virgin in the Waldersee” . A lady from the family of Waldesian was Otto von Schlichting from the Ministerialgeschlecht of Schlichting , from the 12th century, the castle Roßlau , married erected. This declared the abandonment of all received fiefs to his lords, the princes of Anhalt. It is not known how far the possessions of the noble family of the Counts von Waldeser extended and when it became extinct. It is also not known when the castle was built. Bernhard von Wölpe was Archdeacon von Waldeser from 1276 to 1279 .

Waldeser came into the possession of the princes of Anhalt-Zerbst and was allocated to Anhalt-Dessau by dividing the estate . In the land register of 1549, which Prince Joachim von Anhalt , Regent Anhalt-Dessau from 1509 to 1561, had created, the castle was called an “almost princely castle” , in which the rule before the construction of the Dessau castle “essentially had court camps and there lived ” .

The devastation of Waldesian by a dump - flood is dated to the period 1314-1325. In the following period the castle was demolished. The Dessau Palace was built in 1341 from the stones of the destroyed castle.

The goods of the parish church Waldeser received the Marienkirche Dessau by donation of the prince brothers Albrecht and Waldemar von Anhalt.

The towns of Jonitz and Naundorf, located south of the former Waldeser, were incorporated into Dessau on May 1, 1930, but separated out again on April 15, 1933. On April 1, 1935, both communities were united under the name Jonitz-Naundorf and renamed Waldersee on July 31, 1935, based on the old Waldeser . On November 1, 1945, the community of Waldersee was again incorporated into Dessau.
