The Schwärzenberg pile ruin is a nature reserve near Strahlfeld, a district of Roding in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham in Bavaria .

The nature reserve is located 7.5 kilometers northwest of Roding. It is located in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park and is part of the Upper Bavarian Forest landscape protection area .

The 1 hectare area is a striking elevation in the course of the 150 kilometer long pile with clearly visible pile quartz and the castle ruins of Burg Schwärzenberg dating from the 12th century . The castle was built on the stake quartz rock of the 556 meter high Schwärzenberg , which stands out as a hard rock . Numerous outcrops show the whitish to reddish quartz breccia of the rock. The ruin walls, threatened by decay, were secured in the years 2000–2002 and are accessible again. The stake here marks the fall of the Upper Palatinate Forest into the Bodenwöhr Bay.

The nature reserve was placed under protection on April 12, 1941 and redesignated on November 24, 1976 with an amended ordinance. The castle hill has been designated as an important geotope by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment ( Burgberg der Schwärzenburg , 372R022).
