The Schlossberg von Sattelpeilnstein is a nature reserve near Sattelpeilnstein , a district of Traitsching in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham in Bavaria .
The nature reserve is located 2.9 kilometers south of Traitsching in Sattelpeilnstein. It is located in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park and is part of the Upper Bavarian Forest landscape protection area .
At the time of designation as a nature reserve, the 6.8 hectare area was a completely wooded granite dome with remains of the walls of Sattelpeilnstein Castle . A large part of the forest fell victim to a windthrow in the early 1980s . Today the area is an object of observation for natural reforestation processes. The remaining stands are predominantly beech forests of various types.
The nature reserve was placed under protection on July 22, 1950 and redesignated on November 24, 1976 with an amended ordinance.
