Burgrain is a district of the Upper Bavarian market Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the district of the same name . The settlement is about three kilometers north of the main town on the left of the Loisach and north of the Schwaiggraben . About 500 meters to the west are the ruins of Werdenfels Castle on a rock spur and the village of Farchant 1.5 kilometers further north .

history

The idea of creating a settlement on the outskirts of Garmisch came up in 1932 when workers could not afford an apartment in the locality. After the seizure of power by the National Socialists, the plans were quickly rejected and only taken up again in 1935, appeared as a regulation to support the settlements in force. In 1938 the clearing of the "Farchanter Gröben" on the road between Garmisch and Farchant began and in July 1939 the first settlers moved in. The settlement was only given the name "Burgrain" ten years later - it was a suggestion by chaplain Matthias Brenner in memory of his home town of Isen , where Burgrain Castle is located.
