Ernst Hoffmann (born September 2, 1928 in Erlangen ; † January 2, 2016 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) was a German composer , trombonist , conductor , arranger and music teacher .

Life

Ernst Hoffmann came into contact with music as a child. He received violin lessons and was accepted as an army music student as a young man . After the end of the Second World War he studied at the State Conservatory in Würzburg , where he graduated as a trombonist. Then he went to the LSC dance orchestra in Esslingen am Neckar . From 1956 to 1981 he was principal trombonist in the music corps of the 1st Mountain Division in Garmisch-Partenkirchen under the direction of the conductor Werner Zimmermann-Dreher .

In addition to these activities, Ernst Hoffmann worked as a composer, arranger and orchestra director. After retiring from active service as a professional musician in the armed forces, he was the conductor of the Oberammergau Passion Play , directed the "Musikverein Oberammergau " and was head of the famous "Garmischer Alpenjäger" brass band for many years. He was also active in the Ohlstadt Music Association for many years. The compositions and arrangements by Ernst Hoffmann are characterized by lively melodies, a stylish handling of the composition without technical traps and contemporary rhythms.

In 2009 he was honored as a cultural ambassador for brass music in the Musikbund von Ober- und Niederbayern .
