The Kammersberg is a 1114  m above sea level. A. high elevation of the Murberge in the Upper Mur Valley , Styria .

Location and landscape

The Kammersberg lies between the middle Katschtal near St. Peter am Kammersberg and the upper Wölzertal near Winklern , two northern side valleys of the upper Mur. It is a gentle ridge that represents a northwestern branch of the Pleschaitz  ( 1797  m above sea level ) on the Eichberg  ( 1436  m above sea level ). The Pleschaitz rises directly on the Mur, the Kammersberg already belongs to the Murparalleltal , which accompanies the Mur to the north. Over the pass landscape of the Kammersberger Höhe (approx.  1060  m above sea level ) and the Pöllau ( Schwarze Sau / L512,  1092  m above sea level ), it connects to the main ridge of the Niedere Tauern at the Rettlkirchspitze , which - to the east of the Sölkpass - already part of the Wölzer Tauern .

The ridge stretches from St. Peter and the Urtlbach , a tributary of the Katschbach , over the Buttererkreuz  ( 1072  m above sea level ) and the culmination point to the Mühltratte saddle  ( 1080  m above sea level ) between Peterdorf and Winklern-Knappsäge lies. The southern flank is the village of Kammersberg , the northern foothills are the forest floor on Wiedenhoferbach .

geology

The mountain consists of black mica slate (carbon mica slate ), which is part of the Lower Tauern main mass. This forms the base of the basin of the Murau Paleozoic Era , which does not belong to the Middle East of the Tauern, but to the Upper East Alpine , and forms the main mass of the Murau Mountains ( Gurktaler Nappe ).

The Murparalleltal is part of the Noric Depression . These like the Mur-Mürz furrow are distinctive tectonic fault lines. They were overprinted here by the Murtal Glacier . The Kammersberg is an old valley level of the pre-glacial main valley, which stretched from here over the Neumarkter Sattel and the Olsa into the Carinthian basin . Only when the Gurk and Seetal Alps rose above the low mountain range did the Mur break through to the east and the valleys deepened further.

history

The high path of the Katschtalstraße, used since Roman times, led over the Kammersberg from the old Katsch Castle . Here was a medieval defense tower that also served as a court for a long time. The name "Chamber" belongs to a manorial property that belonged to the Freising diocese , later to the Liechtenstein and the Schwarzenberg zu Murau . So Sankt Peter also came up with his addition “under the Kammersberg” (later: “on”), as did Feistritz . The “ Judgment Stream ” is also a reminder of this. The tower was probably destroyed as early as the Baumkircher feud in 1469, and has come off completely. Another watchtower of the Höhenweg was probably on the Wachenberg to the west.
