The Burgstein is a 879 m high mountain in the Kösseinestock of the Hohe Fichtelgebirge ( district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge , Bavaria).
Location and surroundings
The Burgstein lies northeast of the 939 m high Köseine . Nearby places are Bad Alexandersbad in the northeast, Tröstau in the northwest and Marktredwitz in the east.
The forest-free summit area consists of a large granite stone slab surrounded by a spruce forest. 200 m to the east is the Burgstein rock with a height of 869 m ( location ), a mighty granite rock castle and a protected natural monument .
Geotope
The conical granite rock castle has been designated as a valuable geotope (geotope number: 479R015) and a natural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment .
Tourist development
The castle stone and the castle stone rock can be reached on the Franconian mountain path , which leads from the Luisenburg district of the city of Wunsiedel in the direction of Kosseine. Stone steps and wooden stairs have led to the rock pulpit of the Burgsteinfelsen since 1790, and there is a good panoramic view of almost all the mountains of the Fichtelgebirge.
