Burkhard Schöps

Burkhard Schöps (born July 8, 1955 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Schöps attended school in Nennhausen before he graduated from high school in Potsdam from 1972 to 1975 and completed vocational training as a construction worker . From 1977 to 1981 he studied civil engineering at the University of Cottbus and graduated with a degree in industrial and special construction. From 1981 to 1986 he was employed as a civil engineer at the Deutsche Reichsbahn , then he was an assistant at the Cottbus University of Civil Engineering until 1990. Between 1994 and 2000 he was managing director of BUGA Cottbus 95 GmbH.

He was at times a member of the Presidium of the National Sports Confederation and state chairman of the Brandenburg Sports Youth.

In 1990, at the time of reunification in the GDR , Schöps joined the CDU and soon became chairman of the CDU local branch in Cottbus-Mitte.

After the local elections in May 1990, he was elected as an alderman in Cottbus and was head of the environment and urban economy until 1994 . He was elected to the Cottbus city council for 1993 to 1994 and was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there . At times he was also chairman of the supervisory board of the Cottbus recycling company.

In the state elections in Brandenburg in 1999 , Schöps ran as a direct candidate in constituency 41 (Cottbus II). With a result of 21.10% of the first votes , Schöps was clearly defeated by Manfred Stolpe from the SPD , who won the direct mandate with 53.70%, but Schöps entered the Brandenburg state parliament via the CDU list . He was a member of parliament from September 29, 1999 to October 13, 2004. During this time, Schöps was media policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group and member of the committee for science, research and culture.
