Burkhard Winsmann-Steins

Burkhard Winsmann-Steins (* 1948 ; born Burkhard Winsmann ) is a German animal and hunting photographer .

Live and act

In his youth, Burkhard Winsmann went on photo stalking with an Agfa-Clack . This passion - combined with his passion as a hunter - he later turned into a profession. Since the 1960s he has published his photos in hunting magazines , especially deer and dog , for which he also works as an author. His pictures of wild animals are all taken in the wild and are not posed. In addition, he repeatedly captures scenes from hunting and is a well-known nature and landscape photographer. Winsmann-Steins has also published several books with his photographs, including Mit den Augen des Jäger (2001), which contains a selection of his most beautiful pictures. His recordings of roebucks in particular are always admired. He put together the most successful of these in 2007 for Kapitale Böcke in Traumrevieren , an illustrated book that he himself calls his life's work.

In 1992, together with the forest scientist Andreas Gautschi, he published the magnificent volume Rominten yesterday and today about the famous “ Rominter Heide ” hunting area , which had been published three times by 1999. Together with László Bozóki he developed the published 2003 European trophy catalog , the information on the 182 kapitalsten European elk , 9,300 red deer , 2,400 fallow deer , 10,300 roe deer, 1,000 chamois , 1,200 mouflons and 3,400 boars contains, listed with point indication Erlegungsort and slayer.

Since 2002, Paul Parey Zeitschriftenverlag has published an annual “ Experienced Nature” calendar exclusively with photos by Burkhard Winsmann-Steins.

Winsmann-Steins is considered one of the best wildlife photographers in the world. Several of his photos were awarded prizes by the International Council for the Conservation of Game and Hunting (Conseil International de la Chasse et de la Conservation du gibier, CIC). The hunting painter Rien Poortvliet once described him as his "brother in depicting animals".
