Burkheart Ellis (born September 18, 1992 in Raleigh ) is a Barbadian athlete who has specialized in the sprint .

Athletic career

Burkheart Ellis gained his first international experience at the U23 NACAC Championships 2012 in Irapuato , where he finished seventh over 400 meters and eliminated over 200 meters in the first round. In addition, he reached fifth place with the relay in 40.30 seconds. At the 2013 CAC Championships in Morelia , he did not reach the finish line in the 200-meter run. In 2014 he finished fifth over 400 meters at the U23 NACAC championships in Kamloops in 47.10 s.

At the Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015 , the season took fourth place in 38.79 s and was eliminated over 200 meters in the preliminary round. He then won the bronze medal with the relay at the NACAC championships in San José and reached the semi-finals over 200 meters. 2016 he qualified over 200 meters for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he's with 20.74 in advance eliminated. In 2017 he won the silver medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay at the World Relays . At the World Championships in London he was eliminated with 20.84 s in the lead .

In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and was eliminated there in the semifinals over 200 meters with 20.79 s. He also took fifth place with the Barbadian relay team.

In 2012, Ellis was Barbadian champion over 400 meters and in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018 over 200 meters. He is a student at St. Augustine's University in Raleigh .
