Buschstrasse was named in 1939 after the court builder, architect and sculptor Johann Joachim Busch (1720–1802). The ensemble of Ludwigslust with the city church (1770), Ludwigslust Palace (1776) and town houses as well as the Neustadtisches Palais and the new building ( pillared building ) in Schwerin was created according to an overall design by Busch .

In the Middle Ages the street was called Faule Grube until 1875 , after the stagnant, stinking body of water in front of the Gräfenmühle . The moat was arched in the middle of the 19th century. The street was now named Wladimirstraße after the Russian Grand Duke Vladimir , the son-in-law of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg, Friedrich Franz II.

After Schwerin was founded in 1160, a new castle and a small network of medieval streets were built, which roughly followed the current course of the streets. After 1340 the 1st to 3rd Narrow Street were built behind the city wall. The remnants of the city wall were removed in 1736 and this street was connected to today's Mecklenburgstraße (formerly a floating pit). When today's Mecklenburgstrasse developed to Schloßstrasse at the end of the 19th century, this street also gained in importance.

As part of the urban development funding , the area of the old town was redeveloped ; In the mid to late 1990s, the street was redeveloped as a pedestrian zone and many houses were redeveloped.

In terms of traffic , the street on Marienplatz is served by tram lines 1, 2 and 4 as well as bus lines 5, 7, 10, 12, 14 and 19 from Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH (NVS).
