The Bzura (pronunciation: Bsura ) is a central Polish left-hand tributary of the Vistula and flows through the cities of Zgierz , Aleksandrów Łódzki , Ozorków , Łęczyca , Łowicz , Sochaczew and Brochów for a total length of 166 km and flows into the Vistula opposite Wyszogród .

The name of the river became known through the great battle of the Bzura , where the Polish were defeated by the German troops between September 9 and September 19, 1939 . On January 17, 1945, Sochaczew was occupied by the advancing Red Army after they had defeated the German units there.
