The Côtes de la Manche is a French research vessel operated by the CNRS- INSU.

General

The ship was built at the Socarenam shipyard in Boulogne-sur-Mer and delivered in April 1997.

The ship's crew consists of seven to eight people. For longer journeys there is space for eight more people on board. On day trips where the ship is no further than 20  nautical miles from the coast, eleven additional people can be embarked. The ship is approved for trips up to 200 nautical miles offshore. It can stay at sea for up to ten days.

The ship is primarily used in the English Channel for various research tasks.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is propelled by a Poyaud diesel engine with 552  kW output (type: UD 25V12), which acts on a propeller . A diesel generator with 75  kVA apparent power and a diesel generator with 50 kVA apparent power are available for generating electricity.

There are two laboratories on board, a 9.4 m² wet laboratory and a 7 m² multi-purpose laboratory. Behind the superstructure with the wheelhouse is a 22 m² open working deck. There is space for a 10-foot container here .

The ship is equipped with various winches as well as sonar , echo sounder and other equipment required for research. There is a crane on the starboard side that can lift about a ton. The ship also has a swiveling stern boom .
