Cölestin Königsdorfer , from 1832 Knight von Königsdorfer (also Cölestin von Königsdorfer ; born August 18, 1756 in Flotzheim as Bernhard Königsforfer ; † March 16, 1840 in Donauwörth ), was the last abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Heilig Kreuz Donauwörth .

Life

Königsdorfer attended the St. Salvator High School and Lyceum of the Jesuits in Augsburg from 1768 to 1776 . At the age of 20 he entered the order. After being ordained a priest in 1780, he taught oriental languages, canon law and theology in the monastery until 1785 and from 1791 as professor of mathematics and physics at the University of Salzburg .

From 1794 and 1803 until the secularization , Königsdorfer headed the Benedictine monastery Heilig Kreuz Donauwörth. In 1832, the bourgeoisie was ennobled by the Bavarian King Ludwig I by being awarded the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown .

He wrote theological, philosophical and scientific writings and recorded his sermons for posterity. With the four-volume work The History of the Monastery of Heilig Kreuz in Donauwörth , he left a collection of sources that is still important for historical studies today.

Königsdorfer is buried in the chapel of the cemetery of Heilig Kreuz, which he donated.

His brother Martin Königsdorfer (born October 20, 1752, † March 7, 1835) was a writer and pastor of Lutzingen from 1795 to 1834 .
