CGP
CGP is a 1988 crossover album by American guitarist Chet Atkins and was produced for Columbia Records by Chet Atkins, David Hungate , Daryl Dybka.
It marks a stylistic transition from the country music of the early Chet Atkins to the processing of influences from jazz and rock music . This development is underlined by the selection of musicians involved, including jazz veteran Daryl Dybka, bassist David Hungate, who was a founding member of the Californian rock band Toto , and rock guitarist Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits . The instrumentation also follows this approach , for example with the use of drum computers .
The letters CGP are an acronym , meaning Certified Guitar Player , an honorary title that Atkins himself and later five other guitarists awarded to: John Knowles , Tommy Emmanuel , Jerry Reed , Steve Wariner and Paul Yandell .
