Ira Walton Drew (born August 31, 1878 in Hardwick , Vermont , †  February 12, 1972 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ira Drew attended public schools in his home country as well as the Hardwick Academy . Then he completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. Between 1899 and 1906 he worked as a newspaper reporter in Burlington . He then carried out the same activity in Boston until 1908 . He then studied until 1911 at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy, the subject of alternative medicine ( osteopathy ). Since 1911 he practiced in this field in Philadelphia. Between 1912 and 1933 he was a faculty member of the College of Osteopathy there . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1936 congressional election , Drew was elected to the 7th constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican George P. Darrow on January 3, 1937 . Since he was not confirmed in 1938, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1939 . During this time, other New Deal laws were passed by the Roosevelt government.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Ira Drew practiced as an osteopath again. He died very old on February 12, 1972 in Philadelphia.
