CSU Voința Sibiu was a Romanian football club from Sibiu . He last played in League II , the second Romanian football league.

history

CSU Voința Sibiu was founded in 2007 by the Romanian businessman Ioan Hămbășan. In cooperation with Klaus Johannis , the city's mayor, he continued the football tradition in Sibiu after the dissolution of the clubs FC Inter Sibiu in 2003 and FC Sibiu in 2007. From 2009 to 2011, the newly formed club achieved three successive promotions from League IV to League 1, a unique achievement in Romanian football.

In the summer of 2009, Marius Baciu ended his playing career at Gaz Metan Mediaş and took over the coaching position at Voința, which had prevailed in the relegation against Retezatul Hațeg , the winner of Liga IV in the Hunedoara district . After this promotion to League III , the club received approval from the city to play its home games in the larger Municipal Stadium. On June 9, 2010, Baciu broke his contract after promotion to League II to hire Pandurii Târgu Jiu . He was replaced by Alexandru Pelici , with the Voinţa in the Romanian Football Cup 2010/11 in the round of 32 created a big surprise when it knocked out first division side Gaz Metan Mediaș 3-1 after extra time in the neighborhood derby. It only failed in the round of the last 16 at the next club from the elite class, FC Timișoara .

After the first half-series of 2010/2011 in Liga II, Voința was autumn champion and saw the goal of promotion close; in the end only a disappointing 4th place jumped out. But the joy was great when the Romanian Football Association determined a promotion elimination with Săgeata Năvodari after the license withdrawals of FC Timișoara and Gloria Bistrița , which CSU Voința could win. A 0-0 win in Năvodari was followed by a 2-0 second leg - so Sibiu has been back in the House of Lords for the first time since the 1995/96 season . However, the club had to relegate again after a year.

During the second division season 2012/13 , the club withdrew from the championship after eleven match days and was dissolved due to bankruptcy.
