The East Timorese mountain Cablac ( Cablaque ) is located in the east of the municipality of Ainaro . It is 2180 m high ( other source: 2054 m ).
overview

The region consists of steep gorges and high cliffs. A dense casuarina forest grows between 800 and 1500 m . The region is considered interesting for ornithologists, even if it is still relatively unexplored zoologically. The summit and the surrounding forest have been a protected natural area (PNA) since 2000. On October 20, 2015, the government decided to create the Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão National Park on Cablac. The aim is to preserve this symbolic place of the “struggle for the liberation of the Timorese people” in memory of the “sacrifice of the martyrs of the fatherland”.
history
On May 27, 1912, there was a major battle here during the Manufahi rebellion between the Portuguese colonial troops and the Timorese leader Boaventura . The rebels had holed up here taking advantage of the rugged landscape, but were defeated by the overwhelming power of the Portuguese and forced to flee. Since then, the Cablac has been transfigured as Manufahi's holy mountain.
On October 21, 1990, Xanana Gusmão , the then guerrilla leader of FALINTIL, gave an interview to the Australian journalist Robert Domm in a camp on Cablac . It was Gusmão's first interview by a foreign reporter. Domm had entered East Timor, occupied by Indonesia , as a tourist and was taken to the guerrilla camp, where 50 fighters lived , by RENETIL activist Domingos Sarmento . On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of this meeting, the Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão National Park was created in 2015.
