The Cairo Military Academy Stadium ( Arabic إستاد الكلية الحربية بالقاهرة, DMG Istād al-Kullīyah al-Ḥarbīyah bil-Qāhira ; German Kairo Military Academy Stadium ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the northwestern district of Heliopolis of the Egyptian capital Cairo , al-Qahira governorate .
history
The Cairo Military Academy Stadium was built for the sports teams and athletes of the military academy and opened in 1989. It was renovated in 2005 and 2009 and offers 28,500 seats. Apart from a small roof on the main stand, the sports facility is not covered. In addition to the Cairo International Stadium , the rival football clubs al Ahly Cairo and al Zamalek SC from Giza play their home games here. The facility was one of six venues for the 2006 African Cup of Nations .
