Camp Lo is an American hip hop group from the Bronx . Their music is attributed to East Coast hip-hop and moves with influences from jazz and disco - funk between jazz rap and pop rap .

history

Camp Lo was founded in 1995 by Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede as a duo in the Bronx. After they got a record deal with Profile Records , their song Coolie High was placed on the soundtrack for the movie Great White Hype and selected as a single . It was her first success with rank 62 in the genre-specific Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs charts of Billboard magazine .

With Luchini aka (This Is It) the breakthrough came on the Billboard Hot 100 , where the piece lasted for 17 weeks and reached position 50. The debut album Uptown Saturday Night profited from this and debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200 .

This was followed by only a few guest appearances, such as on Oran “Juice” Jones 'single Poppin' That Fly from 1997 or De La Souls So Good from 2000. It wasn't until 2001 that the EP Short Eyes made a comeback. However, it was not successful, as was the case with the second studio album Let's Do It Again , which only found its way into the top R & B / Hip-Hop albums on 64.

This required another five-year break, which was followed in 2007 by the album Black Hollywood . For this work, Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede worked again with the producer Ski Beatz , as on their debut . This cooperation was expanded over the next few years and in 2009 two Camp Lo albums were released with Stone and Rob Caught on Tape in the spring and Another Heist in the fall. In the latter, Ski Beatz was listed as an official member for the first time.

In 2011 two mixtapes were released , 80 Blocks from Tiffany’s Part 1 and 2, which were recorded with Pete Rock . In 2015 the sixth studio album Ragtime Hightimes was released and in 2017 the compilation On the Way Uptown followed , a compilation of previously unreleased demo recordings and other songs from the time the group was founded. In the same year came the seventh album The Get Down Brothers , including a European tour named after. Another mixtape was released in 2018 with Candy Land Xpress .
