The Campo Deportivo Veracruzano was a stadium in the Mexican port city of Veracruz , which served the baseball club Rojos del Águila de Veracruz for half a century and the soccer team of CD Veracruz for a quarter of a century.

history

In 1943 in Mexico of professional football was introduced, merged the hitherto rival city rivals Sporting and España for CD Veracruz to the newly created Liga MX to be included.

The cup tournament of the 1942/43 season was officially held under professional conditions and the newly formed CD Veracruz team played their first game in this competition on July 4, 1943 in Campo Deportivo Veracruzano against CF Atlante ; a well-rehearsed team from the old Primera Fuerza , which almost as expected could prevail with 6: 1.

The first game in the opening season of the new professional league played the team from Veracruz on October 17, 1943, also in front of a home crowd against Club Marte and scored a respectable 3: 3 against the previous year's champions of the old Primera Fuerza.

The "glorious years of CD Veracruz" are inextricably linked to Campo Deportivo Veracruzano, when it won all three titles in the club's history with the then Mexican superstar Luis de la Fuente : two championships in the seasons 1945/46 and 1949/50 and in between the Copa México in the 1947/48 season. The highest victory in the history of the Mexican professional league also took place at the Campo Deportivo Veracruzano, when the CD Veracruz championship team defeated CF Monterrey 14-0 on May 26, 1946 .

After the completion of the Estadio Luis de la Fuente in the spring of 1968, the CD Veracruz left the stadium, which continued to serve as the home of the Rojos del Águila de Veracruz.
