Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Canadian Rocky Mountains .

Areas

Because of its geological and ecological value, the area was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1984 and expanded in 1990. It includes four national parks and three provincial parks in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia . The area is 2,306,884  hectares .

National parks

The associated national parks are:

• Banff National Park
• Jasper National Park
• Kootenay National Park
• Yoho National Park

Provincial parks

Three Provincial Parks in British Colombia are also part of the World Heritage:

• Hamber Provincial Park
• Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park
• Mount Robson Provincial Park

Landscape features

There are a number of notable mountains, canyons, waterfalls, lakes, glaciers, and hot springs in the parks. Some of the most important rivers in North America originate here or flow through the area. These are:

• North Saskatchewan River
• Athabasca River
• Columbia River
• Fraser River
