Candy Clark
Candace June "Candy" Clark (born June 20, 1947 in Norman , Oklahoma ) is an American film actress and former model .
Life
Candy Clark grew up the daughter of a chef in Texas , where she was a student at Trimble Tech High School in Fort Worth . When she was 18, Clark moved to New York City , where she made her first money as a model. Discovered and promoted by director John Huston , Clark first appeared in front of the camera in 1972 in his film drama Fat City .
However, she achieved international fame just a year later when she appeared in front of the camera in 1973 in the role of the friendly and inexperienced blonde Debbie Dunham in American Graffiti by George Lucas . For this portrayal, she was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Supporting Actress in 1974 . In 1976 she was seen as a partner of David Bowie in the science fiction film The Man Who Fell From Heaven . In the run-up to the shooting of the film The Man Who Fell From Heaven, Clark weighed just 51 kilograms because of a hepatitis infection, which the severely emaciated actress contracted during a trip to South America. However, Candy Clark takes the view that the underweight fits optically with the spindly role of Mary-Lou she plays in it. In 1977, Clark is said to be considered for the role of Princess Leia in Star Wars , but lost to Carrie Fisher at the casting .
Although the number of her film and television roles declined from the 1990s, Clark is still active as an actress today. In 2011 she played in Sven Mundt's play Images of Louise Brooks , which premiered in Berlin. She has played the mother of AJ Cook's character Jennifer Jareau in the television series Criminal Minds since 2012 , and in 2017 she was seen as Doris Truman in the new edition of David Lynch's Twin Peaks .
Clark, who had liaisons with director Nicolas Roeg and actor Jeff Bridges in the 1970s , was married twice. Both her marriage to actor Marjoe Gortner , with whom she was married from 1978 to 1979, and her relationship with film producer Jeff Wald - the marriage lasted from 1987 to 1988 - fell apart.
