Cantus Thuringia & Capella GbR , consisting of the vocal ensemble Cantus Thuringia and the orchestra Capella Thuringia , specializes in historical performance practice , especially early music . The headquarters of the ensemble is Weimar .

Cantus Thuringia & Capella

It was founded on October 29, 1999 (Capella) and October 27, 2000 (Cantus). The Ensemble Cantus Thuringia & Capella dedicates itself to the repertoire of the 16th to 18th centuries in various vocal and instrumental formations. It has been managed by Echo Prize winner Bernhard Klapprott since it was founded, and since October 2002 together with Christoph Dittmar. Concert programs are usually placed in a thematic, liturgical or historical context.

In addition to the focus on sacred vocal music , a uniform overall concept is sought for the performance of stage works through cooperation with specialists in historical drama and gesture.

In keeping with its name, the ensemble feels particularly committed to the musical heritage of Central Germany , especially Thuringia . To present the rich musical culture of Thuringia in concerts, CD recordings and editions, the project “Music Heritage Thuringia - Sounding Residences, Cities and Villages between Reformation and Enlightenment ” was launched in 2008 on the initiative of Cantus Thuringia & Capella .

The ensemble performs at international festivals a. a. the Handel Festival Halle (Saale) , International Handel Festival Göttingen , Bach Festival Leipzig , the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht , the Bach Biennale Weimar, Days of Early Music in Herne , the Thuringian Bach Weeks , the Heinrich Schütz Music Festival and realized numerous CD, Radio and television recordings.

Cantus Thuringia

Cantus Thuringia, for soloists or choirs, consists of professional singers trained in early music. He maintains a spiritual and secular repertoire, whereby the juxtaposition of the newly discovered and the familiar presents a challenge.

Capella Thuringia

In addition to working with the vocal ensemble, Capella Thuringia primarily devotes herself to chamber music, concerts and consort music. It plays exclusively on historical instruments of the respective epoch.
