Capilloventer ( "Hair belly" of Latin capillum "Hair" and venter "belly") is the name of a genus of Wenigborstern , the only genus of mono generic family Capilloventridae in the annelid class of clitellata (Clitellata) attached to coastlines of South America and Antarctica , and are common in inland waters of Australia .

features

The body of the Capilloventridae has four pairs of bristles on each segment (two pairs on the back and two on the belly), of which one bristle - also on the belly side - is designed as a hair and the other as a hook.

The animals have a pair of testes in the 11th segment and a pair of ovaries in the 12th segment. Male atria, prostates, and penises are absent. The pair of receptacula seminis open out laterally at the transition from the 6th to the 7th segment, with the ampoules in the 7th segment. The pair of male sexual openings is located in a copulation pocket in the 12th segment, the pair of female sexual openings in the 13th segment.

Distribution, habitat and way of life

The Capilloventridae are widespread on the coasts of South America and Antarctica and in inland waters - especially rivers with sandy bottoms - in Australia . They are freshwater and saltwater inhabitants . Little is known about their eating habits.
