Muhammad Tajuddin

Muhammad Tajuddin (* in the 18th century; † 1807 ) was the nineteenth Sultan of Brunei according to official census . He ruled from 1778 to 1804 in succession to his father Omar Ali Saifuddin I. In April 1804, he abdicated in favor of his eldest son, Muhammad Jamalul Alam I. decreases. After his death in November 1804, he ruled again until his own death in 1807.

Life

origin

Muhammad Tajuddin was the eldest son of Omar Ali Saifuddin I by his second wife, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Nuralam . He was the half-brother of Muhammad Kanzul Alam , who would later succeed him as the 21st Sultan of Brunei, and of Pengiran Shahbandar Pengiran Anak Abdul Wahab , the father of the 24th Sultan of Brunei, Abdul Momin .

As the eldest and legitimate son of Omar Ali Saifuddin I, he was awarded the title Yang Di-Pertuan Muda by his father.

Reign

Sultan Muhammad Tajuddin commissioned Khatib Haji Abdul Latif to write the Silsilah Raja-Raja Berunai . The Batu Tarsilah , a stone tablet containing the genealogy of the Sultans of Brunei in Jawi alphabet, was also completed during his reign. Khatib Haji Abdul Latif was also commissioned to build the Rumah Waqaf (Hospital) for Brunei pilgrims in Mecca .

He also sent ambassadors to China of the Qing Dynasty to trade relations to tie. To keep the peace in the sultanate, he tried to make relations with Spain peaceful. He also dispatched an ambassador to the Philippines , which the Spaniards were colonizing at the time.

Second reign

When the sultan came to the throne again in 1804, he was already old. To facilitate his rule, he decided to appoint a regent. He wanted to appoint Pengiran Anak Yusof . However, this refused. For this he made his half-brother Muhammad Kanzul Alam , who was already a member of the vice , the regent .

He also appointed his daughter-in-law Raja Isteri Noralam binti Sultan Muhammad Kanzul Alam , the widow of Muhammad Jamalul Alam I , and Pehin Jawatan Dalam Munap as advisors to Omar Ali Saifuddin II.

death

Muhammad Tajuddin died in 1807. He was buried at Kubah Makam Di Raja in Bandar Seri Begawan . His tombstone stands next to the graves of his son, Muhammad Jamalul Alam I , and his grandson, Omar Ali Saifuddin II.

He was initially succeeded by his half-brother, Muhammad Kanzul Alam .
