Carl August Lebschée

Carl August Lebschée (born July 27, 1800 in Schmiegel near Posen , † June 13, 1877 in Munich ) was a German romantic painter and draftsman.

Life

Lebschée came to Bavaria with his family, originally from Alsace, at the age of seven. The artist, who was talented as a child, was able to attend the Munich Art Academy from the age of 14 with a grant from the Bavarian king . His teachers included Wilhelm von Kobell , Max Josef Wagenbauer , Johann Georg von Dillis and Carl Ernst Christoph Heß . At the age of 25 he became a freelance painter, draftsman and illustrator.

His main artistic focus was the lifelike depiction of landscapes and buildings. One of his favorite subjects were old castles. He was mainly active in old Bavaria and Upper Franconia. On behalf of the Historical Society of Upper Bavaria, he made watercolors of the frescoes by Hans Donauer the Elder from summer 1866 to autumn 1871 . Ä. in the Antiquarium of the Munich Residence .

Lebschée remained unmarried throughout his life. He always struggled with financial problems. In the last years of his life he could hardly see anymore.
