He was born the son of a miner, studied from 1755 to 1759 with N. Ch. Saalbach in Leipzig and then lived in Dresden from 1763 . In 1768 he took over the printing company from Johann Conrad Stössel and founded his own publishing house in 1777. In 1783 he was granted the Saxon court book printer privilege. This involved printing official publications and ensuring that worthwhile jobs were received. The Meinhold'sche Hofbuchdruckerei printed, among other things, Dresden with its magnificent buildings and beautiful surroundings by Christian Gottlob Hammer (1810), the Saxon constitution of 1831 , the first Saxon postage stamps in 1851, book printing - German history books 1862, hiking books, city guides, school blackboards (including pictures for German history, illustrated by well-known contemporary artists), school books. He also printed works by well-known composers such as Johann Gottlieb Naumann , Christian Ehregott Weinlig , Joseph Schuster and Franz Seydelmann .

He reproduced with lithography , with the help of which he could produce large numbers in a short time.

The Meinhold publishing house, which he founded as a printing company in 1777 (later: C. C. Meinhold & Sons), existed until 1946. The publishing house had specialized in children's and youth literature.

In 1792 he bought a winery in the Lößnitz (today Radebeul - Oberlößnitz ), where he took his summer residence. He was a member of the Dresden Freemasons lodge to the three hardworms and true friends . Meinhold died in 1827 and was buried in the Elias cemetery in Dresden in field D 9-2.
