Carl Franz (medical officer)
Carl Franz (* 27. September 1870 in Königsberg , † 10. October 1946 in Sömmerda ) was a German generaloberstabsarzt and Army Medical Inspectorate.
Life
Franz studied medicine at the Albertus University in Königsberg and was able to complete this course with a doctorate in 1894 . He then joined the 1st East Prussian Field Artillery Regiment No. 16 in his hometown as a one-year volunteer . On May 10, 1894, he was taken into active service as a medical officer. During his assignment to the surgical university clinic in his hometown from 1896 to 1899, he worked there a. a. with Walther Kausch . Between 1900 and 1904 Franz was assigned to the anatomical institute of the same institution, and then to Berlin at the Charité . From 1904 to 1907 Franz acted as an advisory surgeon in the Schutztruppe for German South West Africa . After his return to Germany, Franz settled down in Berlin again and worked on his habilitation . From October 18, 1910, he was employed as a doctor in the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot , in the 3rd Guards Field Artillery Regiment and as a surgeon at the garrison hospital in Berlin I. On March 10, 1914, he was appointed "Professor of War Surgery" and as such he was entrusted with a teaching position at the Kaiser Wilhelm Academy with the rank of senior staff doctor . Franz took part in the First World War as chief medical officer; initially as the chief physician of a medical company and later as an advisory surgeon in the 7th Army .
Franz was accepted into the Reichswehr and was there after his promotion to general physician from October 1, 1920 to March 31, 1925 division physician of the 3rd division . At the same time as he was promoted to general staff doctor, he was subsequently appointed group doctor of Group Command 1 . From November 1, 1927, Franz acted as an Army Medical Inspector and became such a senior officer. Franz was retired from active service on October 31, 1932 and the Medical Faculty of the University of Berlin awarded him the title of Honorary Professor of War Surgery a day later . From June 1, 1938 Franz was made available to the army and he gave lectures at the Military Medical Academy . His zV position was canceled on June 30, 1944.
