Carl Friedrich Eduard Bartsch

Carl Friedrich Eduard Bartsch (born April 10, 1802 in Breslau ; † June 21, 1882 there ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Born as the son of a master belt maker and Wroclaw city councilor, Bartsch studied law in Göttingen , Berlin and Wroclaw after attending the Maria Magdalenen grammar school in Wroclaw. During his studies in 1821 he became a member of the old Breslau fraternity Arminia . After his exams in 1824 and 1830, he became a laborer at the Namslau regional court and later a higher regional court assessor in Ratibor . In 1831 he became a paid city ​​councilor in Breslau and was city ​​physician from 1833 to 1838 , then mayor of the city until 1879 . In 1851 he was elected mayor , but was not confirmed by the ministry for political reasons. In 1855 he became a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the Breslau constituency 4; he resigned his mandate in 1856. From 1866 to 1876 he was a member of the Silesian House of Representatives. In 1878 he retired.

From 1837 he belonged to the Silesian Society for Patriotic Culture and was its general secretary from 1845 to 1871 and from 1878 its vice-president . He was also chairman of the board of trustees of the Fraenkel Foundation , director and honorary member of the Breslauer Gewerbeverein as well as member of the administrative board of the Silesian blind teaching institutions.

Honors

The city of Wroclaw set up the Bartsch Foundation and named Bartschstrasse in Wroclaw after him.
