Carl Fruwirth (painter)
Carl Borromäus Fruwirth (born January 24, 1810 in Vienna ; † January 17, 1878 there ) was an Austrian genre and history painter.
Fruwirth was born the son of a rifle manufacturer. He first studied at the Vienna Art Academy and continued his studies from December 19, 1833 at the Munich Art Academy .
He visited Italy several times , particularly Venice and Naples , where he painted genre pictures from the life of the Italian people. Fruwirth was also engaged in restoring and copying works by old masters, and also collected works of art.
His son Carl (1862–1930) became a botanist and agricultural scientist .
