Carl Gustaf Skytte

Carl Gustaf Skytte ( December 12, 1647 - June 11, 1717 in Malmö ) was a Swedish officer in the Great Northern War .

Life

He entered the military service in the Kronobergregiment and held the rank of ensign in 1668 . On August 10, 1671 Skytte was made lieutenant . In 1676 he was promoted to lieutenant . Skytte took part in the fighting in the 1670s ( Schonischer War ) and was, among other things, commander of Kristianstad and Landskrona . Skytte was in the French military service, where he reached the degree of major that he kept when he entered the Swedish service. In 1697 he was appointed second battalion commander and commander of Tartu. In the Great Northern War he led the defense of Tartu , which was besieged and captured by Russian troops on the night of July 12th to 13th, 1704 . He served as Lieutenant Governor of Skåne for two periods from 1716 to 1717. In 1715 Skytte became a baron , but he was not introduced to Riddarhuset . The following year he was promoted to general. The house where he died was Råbelöv Castle in Skåne.

Carl Gustav was the son of Bertil Skytte and Catharina Eva von Mörner. He was the husband of Anna Catharina Ulfeldt and the brother of Hans Skytte.
