Egmont Heinrich Wilhelm Friedrich Abraham Freiherr von Reitzenstein (born November 16, 1819 in Magdeburg , † August 16, 1900 in Charlottenburg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Egmond comes from the Haus Unter-Schwarzenstein line of the traditional Franconian Reitzenstein family . He was a son of the Prussian major general Karl von Reitzenstein (1793–1846) and his wife Albertine, née Countess von Chasôt (1801–1868) from the house of Neu Königsborn .

Military career

Reitzenstein visited the cadet house in Berlin and was then transferred as a second lieutenant to the 10th Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army in early August 1837 . From September 1843 he was assigned to the teaching squadron for one year for training purposes. For a short time in 1849 Reitzenstein was in command as deputy adjutant of the 7th Cavalry Brigade in Magdeburg for half a year . From the end of February 1851 to the end of September 1852 he was squadron leader in the 2nd Battalion in the 27th Landwehr Regiment, in the meantime rose to Prime Lieutenant and served in the same function from April 12, 1853 to September 24, 1857 in the 10th Landwehr Hussar Regiment. This was followed by a position as a captain and squadron chief in his main regiment. After being promoted to major , Reitzenstein was transferred to the Thuringian Hussar Regiment No. 12 in Merseburg on October 17, 1864 as a regular staff officer . In this position he took part in the battle of Königgrätz and the battle of Blumenau in 1866 during the war against Austria and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, fourth class with swords.

With a position à la suite , Reitzenstein was commissioned on June 13, 1867, initially with the command of the Westphalian Uhlan Regiment No. 5 and appointed two months later as regimental commander. In this position he rose to colonel by the end of July 1870 . Reitzenstein led his regiment in 1870/71 during the war against France in the battles of Colombey , Gravelotte , Noisseville , Hallue , Bapaume and Saint-Quentin as well as in the siege of Péronne and the enclosure of Metz . Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , he was appointed commander of the 1st Cavalry Brigade in Königsberg on October 16, 1873 and promoted to major general on October 27, 1874. family

Reitzenstein married on July 31, 1854 in Aschersleben with Anna von Sack (1828-1910). The daughter Gertrud (1855-1939) emerged from the marriage and married Arthur von Buddenbrock (1850-1929) on November 10, 1878 in Königsberg . He was a landowner and a member of the German Reichstag .
