Carl Heinrich Johann Wilhelm Graf von Schlitz called von Görtz (also Karl ) (born November 2, 1752 in Schlitz ; † December 10, 1826 there ) was a Hessian landlord from the Schlitz family .

Life

Carl Heinrich von Schlitz was the son of Georg Graf von Schlitz (1724–1794) and his wife Johanna Elisabeth nee Freiin von Lintelo (1716–1753). In 1726 the once baronial family was elevated to the rank of imperial count. He married Countess Henriette von Wurmser (1767-1827) in Prague on July 5, 1783, the daughter of the Imperial and Royal Field Marshal Dagobert Siegmund Count von Wurmser .

Since his mother died in his second year of life, he was brought up first by the stepmother, Countess zu Stolberg, and then by a tutor. His uncle Johann Eustach von Görtz was appointed from 1762 on behalf of the ruling Duchess Anna Amalia to be the prince educator of her two sons, the Hereditary Prince Karl August and the younger Constantine . Carl Heinrich was brought up together with them.

From 1771 he studied law and political science at the University of Jena and was then employed in Dresden in 1774 as an assessor and in 1775 as a councilor to the Saxon government. In 1778 he became chamberlain there .

In the following years he was ambassadorial cavalier in St. Petersburg and Stockholm and then ambassador of the Electorate of Saxony in Copenhagen . At the beginning of the First Coalition War , he was extraordinary authorized minister of the Electorate of Saxony in 1793 with the allied powers on the Rhine. After the death of his father on January 29, 1794, he took over the government of the County of Schlitz. At the same time, however, he remained a diplomat in the service of the Electorate of Saxony and represented Saxony as extraordinary authorized minister in Munich in 1795 and in Berlin in 1801.

In 1804 he became a member of the Wetterauischen Counts College with a seat and vote. With the Act of Confederation, which took place Mediatisierung the county slot. It became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . As a Hessian registrar, Görtz was hereditary member of the First Chamber of the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1820 to 1823 . In 1815 he was appointed royal Saxon envoy to the Bundestag .

His son Friedrich Wilhelm (1793–1839) was heir to the class rule.
