Carl Hinrichs (born November 26, 1903 in Nuremberg , † November 8, 1990 in Schwerin ) was a German painter .

Life

In 1905 Hinrichs came to Schwerin with his family. From 1917 he worked as a farm worker, warehouse clerk, bookbinder, house painter, peat cutter, miner and haberdashery. During the Second World War from 1939 to 1945 as a worker and house painter in Schwerin-Görries, he passed his apprenticeship examination as a decorative painter in 1942 . He received his first artistic instruction from the Schwerin painter Wilhelm Facklam in his painting school. In 1945 Hinrichs became a freelance artist. In 1950 and 1951, through the agency of the writer Ehm Welk, he completed an artistic training course at the Academy of Arts of the GDR in Berlin as a master class student under Heinrich Ehmsen . He was a member of the Association of Fine Artists and from 1978 an honorary member.

Hinrichs painted mostly Mecklenburg landscapes and still lifes , for which he was awarded the Fritz Reuter Prize in Schwerin in 1958 (painting: industrial and port city of Wittenberge ) and 1963 . From the late 1960s he spent the summer months in Blowatz near the island of Poel . In 1989 he became an honorary citizen of the city of Schwerin. Some of his works are now exhibited in the State Museum in Schwerin. In 1973 he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze, 1978 in silver and 1983 in gold.
