Froelich and younger brother of the future Minister of State Heinrich Bossart .
After attending grammar school in Friedland, where Michaelis passed his Abitur in 1885, he studied Protestant theology at the universities of Erlangen , Tübingen , Leipzig and Rostock from 1885 to 1888 . He then worked for a year in the Von Bodelschwinghschen Anstalten . In 1917 he was appointed to succeed Ernst Ahlers as provost of Ratzeburg Cathedral . In 1933 Bossart, who according to the National Socialists was considered a half-Jew , asked for his retirement.
On April 7, 1899, he married Therese von Hahn , the daughter of President August von Hahn in Darmstadt . The couple had a daughter and three sons. The journalist Jürgen Corleis is his grandson.
